Introducing Agnes
Agnes Josephine Bliss Lastname was born on April 25 weighing 9lbs and measuring 20". We are in love!
We loved Agnes for her from the beginning of the pregnancy (thanks to the silly, adorable Agnes in Despicable Me) but were getting a lot of negative feedback when she was born and we finally announced her name, causing DH to hesitate (it felt like Henry all over again, though DH was more steadfast then). She was nearly two days old before we made it official. As her brother said, "She just has to be Agnes."
Her two middles honor some very special people and we're quite proud of her name overall! The naysayers have either decided to leave it alone or chose not to speak negatively in the first place. ;) As Laura herself pointed out, Agnes is a rather contrarian name, and my friends and family expected nothing less from me! ;)

Congrats! I loved Agnes in Despicable Me. I also have a soft spot for Agnes because of a lovely statue of St. Agnes that I saw in a Cathedral a few years back.

I honestly have no idea what people have against Agnes. I think it's a lovely, classic name, easy to spell and pronounce, "portable" between languages (I believe every European language has some form of it), and nicely feminine without being girly/frilly. Josephine just rounds out the perfection for me -- I have a soft spot for Joseph and all its variants.

Congratulations! I'm very fond of Agnes, too. Just FYI, I recently read "David Copperfield" and there's a very sympathetic Agnes character in the story. Might be nice to introduce her to your Agnes. I was thinking that it's not a bad story to read aloud to a kid of a certain age, actually.
