Middle Name for Hank

We are strongly considering Hank for first name, not really Henry so much but I still included it below because unfortunately I think it might sound better.  We are struggling with middle names.  We are looking for feedback on the two family names below for middle names.

Hank Norman - I lean towards this if going with Hank

Hank Charles - Not so much

Henry Norman - Sounds the best to me but we dont want to name him Henry and call him Hank lol.

I like Hank but would go with the full name just for the sake of being versatile. Henry Norman sounds good.

Going by sound alone, I like Henry Norman best of all your options.  Hank Norman is Ok, but not great.  Hank Charles I don't like at all.  I know you didn't include it as an option, but Henry Charles would be my favorite.

Regarding your Hank vs. Henry problem, I'm generally not a big fan of nicknames as given names.  A just Hank is always going to be just Hank, even if it doesn't fit him.  However, a Henry called Hank always has Henry (or Harry) to fall back on if he doesn't feel like a Hank or if he justs wants something more formal to use professionally.

I'll also add that for me, Hank sounds like the class clown, athlete, cowboy type.  It's very hard for me to imagine that name on a more bookish or artistic person.  However, Henry strikes me are more versatile in that I can imagine all of the above personalities being named Henry.

Very good points and I think I agree.  I forgot to add that the siblings are sister Morgan and brother Jack.  So we kind of feel like Hank goes better with that name set but Henry is not bad either with it we just feel like that  name doesn't really fit our family.  We might be ok with "class clown, athlete, cowboy type" lol.  Also we are down to 14 days left and not really close to agreeing or settling on this :-(

I think both Henry and Hank sound good with Morgan and Jack.  I would be tempted to go with Henry nn Hank for  the versatility.

I am not a fan of Norman for a middle name, although it does sound ok with either option.

I much prefer Charles, although it sounds much better with Henry than Hank.

Anything that starts with "E."

The name Hank always makes me think of "hanky" in my pocket for snot, or "hanky panky" as in, sexual relations.

So, I'll give you my two cents as the mom of a Jack and a Henry

First, I obviously love the name Henry, and I also adore the name Hank.

We do know a Henry who is Only ever called Hank.

We fully intended to call ours both Hank and Henry, but in practice, it just didn't work out.

I think part of the problem was that a lot of people don't know that Hank is a nn for Henry! I know it's hard to believe-but remember that most people don't hang out on naming sites, and lots of people won't have ever known a young Hank.  I'm sure if you introduce him as Hank and use it, it will be just fine. My point is just that it seems like a tricky one to toggle between the two versions-if that makes sense.

My only hesitancy with Hank as a given name, is that it does have the slightest twinge of, "Pet name," about it. That may be because our neighbor's dog is Hank, and there are some children's books our boys like about Hank the Cow Dog. Of course, there are any number of men in industry and so on who go by Hank-Hank Paulsen springs to mind first.

My bottom line is that I personally prefer Henry as a given name, but if the only reason you'd use it would be the flow, then go with Hank Norman. I think it flows perfectly fine, and is an all around fine name.

I do agree that there is something a bit off about Hank Charles.

Henry Charles is also fine, though quite regal!

We do still call ours Hank from time to time, and I secretly hope he may take to it more as a teen. Right now, he prefers the long form.

I don't know that any of that helps You, but that's my two cents! Good luck!

J&H's mom, not logged in-again-sorry-

Thank you!  We are agreeing with everyone which isn't really helping lol.  We now really like Hank Owen but we are bummed the name has no meaning for us.  The flow of Hank Owen is good though.

Hank Owen is great.  Henry Owen sounds nice too, so you can have it both ways.  (I too prefer the long form of the name...my cousin just had a baby named Henry and they call him Hank exclusively.)  Using Owen as a model, some other two-syllable, vowel-starting names that would sound equally nice with Henry:

Andrew
Abram
Amos
Ian
Allen
Asher
Oscar
August
Ansel
Arlo
Adam
