Naming a female character

I want to write a story about a girl who lives in England and has magical powers where she can move things with her mind (sort of like the book "Matilda").... I need a name for her.

thanks

I suppose Maude would be too derivative...

Behind the Name has a thematic listing of "typically English (not American)" names: http://www.behindthename.com/info/themes (scroll down to the bottom of the leftmost column)

Also, Laura W. did a recent pair of blog posts exploring names on either side of the pond:

Some ideas: Fern, Imogen, Freya, Thea.

Those names are nice, but they are not really my taste. I like more uncommon Scandinavian names, even if the story is in England.

You're in luck! Freya is Scandinavian and is popular in England.
