Simon too up and coming?
I realize that Simon is now at only 256 (down a few spots from 2010), but it just seems to me to have all the aspects of a popular name. The -on ending is very in, and four of the top ten names in 2011 are from the Hebrew Bible, so people seem to like that theme.
We love Simon and plan to use it but want to be prepared for a surge in popularity. What do you think? For what it's worth, our daughter's name falls around 100, so we're not adverse to popular names, but we'd rather have a name that's consistent, rather than one with extreme peaks. Daniel, for example, has been in the top 20 for over 50 years, but it doesn't sound popular or dated because people of all different ages have the name. Simon has been on the rise since the 50's, which is worrisome, but probably not enough to keep us from it.
While I'm here, suggestions for a middle name to go with Simon? Thanks for your input!

I don't think you should be afraid of using the name Simon. It's a wonderful name. I don't know any children, or adults for that matter, with the name Simon. Maybe it's not popular in the north.
For a middle name - maybe Simon Cordell.
Simon is great! Use it!
I think Simon is great too, but I think you are wise to notice that it may be poised for an explosion in popularity.
I think Simon is lovely.
Here in Australia I grew up with lots of Simons and worked with several so it doesn't scream baby and toddler to me. In fact I don't know anyone under the age of 30 with the name. I gather the situation is fairly similar in the UK.
I think Simon is a versatile name and ages well. I can see why it's getting more popular but I'm not sure it'll ever be top 10. I think you are probably safe from it hitting dizzying heights of popularity. It will probably be one of those names that is well known but you don't come across that many people with.
Quite right: here in the UK, I know a scattering of Simons aged 25-60, but it doesn't scream any particular generation.
It's a name that comes up on this site a lot, but I've yet to meet any in real life.
Maybe it will even fall a bit with Simon Cowell less in the spotlight?
I would go with a sporty classic in the mn spot. Anything not suggestive of the Chipmunks. :) and I probably wouldn't go obviously Biblical.
A family surname would be nice with Simon.
I don't think Simon will "explode", and even if it does, it's a name that's been around forever so it still won't ever feel dated. I know one Simon, age 6.
Simon Kenneth
Simon Charles
Simon Pierce
I think that Simon will never get out of fashion, just use it without hesiataion.

I really don't see Simon getting very popular. In terms of Biblical names I think Old Testament choices are prefered right now and while Simon is technically in the Old Testament I think it's more associated with the two apostles by that name in the New Testament. Three of the four Biblical boys names in the top 10 are only in the Old Testament -- Michael is in both but whle still top 10 it certainly is less popular than it once was.
I have a Simon! (So yes, I'm biased). He's about to turn 1. I live in one of the most notorious hotspots for trendy urban childraising in the US (part of NYC) and I have met a grand total of one other child named Simon who was several years older than mine.
While Simon has risen since the '50s, it's been consistently ranked around 250ish for the past 10 years. Sometimes up a little. Sometimes down. That to me is not the chart of a name that's going to show any sudden spikes. But you never know. I love the name that I'll be okay even if it shoots into the top 50-- but I really don't think it will.
And we paired Simon with a surname from my side of the family that starts with "K". I like the contrast of soft and harsh sounds.
