Sister or Brother to Summer!

Hello, I'm new here. I have a daughter Summer Mae, age 4. I am expecting my second, not sure of the gender. The baby is due in two weeks from today and we need a name (or 2)!

For girls we have:

Violet

Kira

Autumn

Ocean

Adelaide

For boys we have:

Jude

Toby

Xander

If your first child is named Summer and your second child is named Autumn, you're locked into naming any future children Winter and Spring. Definitely avoid!

What about Violet June? Both your girls would have nature/noun first names, and vintage single-syllable middle names that sound like months. From your list, Violet Autumn would sound beautifully dramatic.

For boys, Xander Jude sounds the most similar to the cadence of Summer Mae's name, but they're different enough to be distinct.

Congratulations and good luck!

I like the name Violet, but I hear Violet Autumn as Violent Autumn for some reason. I wouldn't go with two noun names together.

And I think with a child named Summer, Autumn has to be off the list of possibilities just like someone said above. It's past the line of coordinating and well into gag-me-with-a-spoon lack of creativity to use it as a first name. And why Autumn for this child who was conceived in Spring and will be born in the Winter? It seems uninspired.

I love the sound of Summer and Adelaide together. The image it creates in my mind is this perfect scene of a lovely warm day, front porch swing, kids laughing as they run...

Unfortunately, the editor is not cooperating with line/paragraph breaks again, so it looks like my choices are either a massive paragraph of names or a very spaced out list. Sorry about that, but for legibility, I chose the list. [Moderator here, stepping in to remove the annoying extra whitespace.]

Hello and congrats!

I really love the idea of two sisters named Summer and Ocean! Unfortunately, I do think that would lock you into a pattern, if that matters. I think some of the middle names listed above would be pretty with Ocean. I also like Violet.

For boys, my favorite is Xander. Xander Jude is very handsome.

If I heard of siblings named Summer and Ocean, I'd assume Ocean is a boy. Actually, even without a sibling, I'd assume Ocean is a boy. The data sort of bears me out: the name has been given to more boys than girls since 2006... but it's not a significant difference. (Before 2006, the name tended to skew slightly female, but again, the difference has always been minimal.) The thing is, why use Ocean for a girl when there's Oceana, Oceanna, Oceania, and Oceane available?

Summer and Autumn is too much, in my opinion. It sounds cheesy.

Summer and Ocean is better, though still gives off a strong hippie vibe. Summer and Violet is nice, a subtler nature connection. Adelaide and Kira both work well too.

I don't like Summer and Xander because of the repeated -er. Summer and Jude, and Summer and Toby both sound good.

I would echo the others in saying that Summer and Autumn is too much. I would definitely avoid that as well as Ocean. To me, Summer and Ocean seems like you are going for a theme. I like the rest of your names, though.
