Sounds like you like a UK feel with a punchy nickname.

boys: Cameron, Campbell, Finnegan, Finlay, Beauregard, Rowan, Sullivan, Beckett, Dexter

girls: Imogen (Ginny), Poppy, Josephine, Ellison, Juniper, Charlotte (Charlie, Lotte, Char), Bryony, Lorelei (Lola, Rory), Beatrice

Let us know if we're on the right track.

Yes, we do like a punchy nickname -- at least for boys...  Really, I like mono-syllabic tough-guy nicknames for guys.  I'm English, husband is American. (I'm from the NE of England and we love Scotland.) dash's name came from Dashiell Hammett, an author from our current city.

The middle names are feisty Brits.  I'd like to continue that trend. or even a feisty Roman name would fit. Hadrian?

We both love Carys for a girl (it's welsh, but means love, which  is my MIL's maiden name. which need a girl to have a nickname... Could I do Clementine for a middle name? I'd like a tough middle name like her brothers.  boudiccea is too crazy, but I love it's fierceness...

But, back to the boy... I know too many Duncan's. I love Rhys, husband says no. (Rhys Hadrian M_)

Oh, my kids have a boring last name but paired with the wrong name can sound Jewish (which would be fine, if we were Jewish! Lol ) So, really old testament is out. Reggie M _designer Nicole M_, arthur M_, etc. (sadly, no relation...) ;)

Oh, I like Bryony, but husbands bro is bryan, and that guy isn't exactly someone to name a child after.  Poppy is sweet - but I'd need it to be a nickname or a middle name so a daughter could be a CEO if she wanted. ;)

For girls, I also love Rhiannon and hubby likes Talia.  Carys Rhiannon? Carys Talia? Talia Rhiannon M_?

I like Bennett for a boy. Too boring?

I hear a Celtic/Northern European influence in your choices, a bent for the classical/heroic, and both an elegance and a bit of attitude (in a good way!). These lean in a variety of directions stylistically, but I think could all fit:

Alban, Alistair (Al = too close to Cal?), August (Augie, Gus),

Beckett (Beck), Brock, Bruce, Bryce, Clark, Cormac (Mac),

Darien/Darius (Dare), Declan (Deck), Desmond, Duncan (I know, but with nn Duke?),

Gareth, Geoffrey, Hector (Heck), Kirk, Julius (Jude), Lawrence (Lad/Lark), Lloyd, Lorcan,

Marcus, Malcolm (Mac), Patrick (Trick), Riordan, Roald, Roger (Rog), Ronan, Rory,

Seamus, Silas, Thaddeus (Tad), Tobin, Victor (Vic), Wallace

Agatha, Aisling (Ash), Ardith, Augusta, Brenna, Bridget (Birdie)/Birgitte, Carlotta, Catriona (Cat), Cecily,

Deirdre, Dilys, Elspeth, Fionnula, Flora, Glenys, Grainne, Greta, Gwendolen (Gwen),

Honor, Ingrid (Inga), Juliet, Kathleen (Kat), Liv, Lydia, Mairead/Margaret/Marguerite (Maggie), Matilda,

Nerissa, Penelope (Penny/Polly/Poppy), Philippa (Pippa), Portia, Romilly (Romy),

Simone, Sinead/Janet, Siobhan, Theresa (Tess),

Vanessa (Ness), Veronica (Ronnie/Rickie/Nikki), Violet, Winifred (Winnie)

I like Carys and Rhiannon, either separately or in combination. I don't think Bennett is too boring, but Beckett has a bit more snap.

Another thread made me think of Bronwen, which I think would be great for you!

It sounds like you should go for Carys since you both love it!  I think Carys Clementine is great... Carys Rhiannon is nice too.  Carys Talia doesn't flow as nicely.

For the boys, here's a few suggestions, some already mentioned:

Flynn
August (Gus)
Sylvan, Sylvester, or Sylvanus (Sy or Sly)
Malcolm (Mal or Mac)
Vance, Evander or Donovan (Van)

Bennett does sounds a little too boring next to Cal and Dash, I agree on Beckett sounding more zingy.  I also know a Beckham (yes, named after the soccer player) ...

I love Carys!  I think it sounds great with Clementine (I'm digging alliterative names recently) or Rhiannon, and Thalia is fine too.

I think most of my suggestions for boy names are listed above, but I'll give them anyway--

Seamus, Donovan, Riordan, Cormac, Murphy, Gavin, Tobias

Also, Bennett and Beckett are both good, though Beckett nn Beck does seem a little "Dash"ier than Bennett nn Ben.  If that makes sense to anyone else.

Thanks for all the suggestions - lots of good ideas.  Beckett is way too common here in San Francisco sadly. There are 2 in my kids' preschool alone...

I love Declan, which shortens to Dex, but my husband (and my mom ) don't care for it.

By the way, my first son had to have a name that shortened to Cal, because I think cal Ripken is the bomb. :) I love boys names that, when shortened, sound a bit "farm-league baseball"....our last name works for that.

Cal Ripken is the bomb!  So cool to find someone who agrees.  I was totally obsessed with Cal Ripken through the 90s.  For the same reason, I mention Calvin as a potential name to dh once and he said, "Like John Calvin?"  I guess naming a baby after my high school crush wasn't a persuasive arguement for him.

So I'm only half joking but would Camden work as a name?

Camden is a nice name, but I know 2 dogs with the name.  It's a nice park though.

I'm mainly a giants fan now- but can't get my husband to sign off on Buster or Posey. ;)

I think Macaulay (Mac) and Wallace (Ace) fit your naming style. Good luck!

Oh, and Carys Clementine isawesome. No need to look further!

Girls:

Penelope Carys- Poppy is a workable nickname, if you like it!

Beatrix Carys

Kerensa (alternative for Carys, similar linguistic root; NE England place names could work in the middle- Tyne, Blyth? I'm going to guess that Hilda might not appeal...)

Boys:

Really like the suggestion of August nn Gus for you, but I might skip Hadrian as middle if you go for it...a bit too much Rome in one name! Depending on where you're from up there, there are plenty of place names and historical figures which would work well in the middle (though Godric is perhaps the only vaguely macho one of the lot- much as I do like Bede, Cuthbert, Oswald, and Aidan).

Tycho (Ty)

Chester (Chet; any chance you're from Chester-le-Street?!)

Finbar (Finn)

Rupert (Rip; though is maybe more acceptable in SF than Gateshead...)

Cyrus (Cy)

Malachy (Mac)

Cianan (Cian/Keen)

I'm having fun coming up with male names with unusual one-syllable nicknames :) Do any of these appeal?

Punchy middle name ideas, Seamus, Fingal and Fergus.  For first names, I like Cormac (Mac) and Malcolm.  Not sure about a nickname for Malcolm though.  Mal seems bad  :)   and Colm....well that makes me think maybe you should just name him Colm and there's no nickname there.

I really like Carys Clementine and if you wanted to you could use CiCi as her nickname.  Some other spunky middles I think could work are Finola, Maisie.   To me, Fiona is a mix of spunky and sweet-I just can't decide if it's spunky enough.

My first thought was that the middle name has to be Fergus if it's a boy and Agnes if it's a girl. :-)

The only boy name I don't remember seeing in previous posts is Gavin, nickname Vin (like "win").

For a girl, a classic like Margaret, Julia/Juliane, Beatrice, or even Henriette would be lovely.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I can't do Malcolm, which i like, because colm is the same name as callum.

Tyne is a great middle name, but my family will disown me because I'm from co Durham and we are Sunderland supporters... ;) I've known Bede's and they've been prattish so that's out.

I don't like Mac names, personally. Too many ofthem and my family has only ever lived as far north as reever territory.

I like Ace as a nick name but Wallace isn't doing it for me.  (wally -ew) Anything close to that??? I like early alphabet first letter names.

I really like Carys clementine, too. My sister likes clementine also though -- bdid I don't believe in name dibs. (and I liked it first and she's not even pregnanT.

Just want to say I LOVE your boys' names.  We spent 4 days in the hospital deliberating about Callum, Dashiell, or Declan.  We went with Declan, It's a shame your DH isn't on board with it because I think it's a great sib set.  We too had Bennett on the list, but I agree he doesn't quite fit with Cal and Dash.

I like the August "Gus" suggestion.

And Carys Clementine is beautiful.  Maren would fit well too.

Good luck!
