Personally I don't care for it, possibly because it makes me immediately think of nylon.  I do love the rhyming names Lila and Isla.  So I think it could be a pretty name in theory, it just doesn't feel "right" to me.

Now that it has been pointed out, I do see the nylon connection.

Reminds me a bit of Nahla from the The Lion King.  I could also see it as a smash up of names like Nola and Isla.

Overall, I'm not a fan.  If you asked me to pick between Nyla and Paisley, I would choose Paisley-though neither are really my style.

Like the MelissaG, I could like the sound of it (I also like Lila and Isla), but it looks "made-up" to me, and I have a negative gut reaction to such names, as I think they tend to feel sort of groundless, insubstantial, and ultimately "down-market", perhaps especially when they include high Scrabble value letters like Y.  I gave it a quick google (and the first hits on google images did not improve my impression of the name), and I saw some sites claiming that it has Arabic, Indian, or Celtic roots.  I find these claims suspect, and none of the typically more reputable sites seemed to have any background for it--I think maybe the claims are based upon considering Nyla to be an alternate spelling of Nila, Naila, Nala, or Nialla, all of which I believe would be pronounced differently than Nyla, and all of which I think I'd prefer to Nyla.

That said, even though it is not my style, it has a nice enough sound, there's nothing really bad about it (it's short and sweet, intuitively spelled and easily pronounced, not too odd or frilly), and I think it would fit right in with many of her young classmates today.  But between Nyla and Paisley, I'd pick Paisley.

My first thought was, "wasn't that the name of that Scarlett Johansson character in that Woody Allen movie...!?". Alas, I checked, it was Nola - not Nyla. I remember that I noticed that name (Nola) because I hadn't heard it before and I really liked it. So I guess my thoughts are that Nyla reminds me of Nola... which I like. Nyla isn't too bad though, but it just one of those names that reminds me of a very similar name I like a little better ;-)
