Torn between two chices for baby girl ..Pls Help me decide!!
Hi there, Im 19 weeks pregnant with my third child, I have 2 boys now Jacob Enrique and Liam Joseph. Now Im looking for choices for a baby girl!!
Im torn between Emma Sophia or Emily Sophia. I know both Emily and Emma (and Sophia!) are quite popular now but I dont live in Northamerica so thats not an issue. My husband is canadian, so we have an english last name starts with B and its quite long.
Please help me decide, what do all think?? Im looking for something timesless and sweet at the sametime.
Emma Sophia or Emily Sophia??
Thx for your input :)

Which one do you feel works better with your surname? Emily Sophia sounds better to my ear than Emma Sophia, but if Emma flows better with the surname I'd be more inclined to go with Emma, since that would be said the most.
I completely agree.
Hmm... I prefer Emma, but both are nice.
I'd go with Emily because it gives you options to call her by her full name or to do Emma or Emmy as nicknames. I know a young Emily who goes by Emma in her family.
Alone I like Emma better, but with Sophia I prefer Emily.
I like Emily better, both alone and with Sophia.
Although if your last name ends in an "ee" sound, I may switch my vote - but if it's long enough, the rest of the last name may break it up enough not to sound rhymey.
Hi, thanks for the input .. Deep inside I think i prefer Emily better... Last name is Bornh0ft of a german background : strong and long, so that why I prefer short sweet sounding names.
In that case, I stand by Emily! Emily Sophia Bornh0ft sounds great :)
Thank you! Im really starting to settle on that one :))
Based on flow with surname and middle name I think Emily works better. I like both though, and they are of similar popularity so I don't think you can go wrong.
I also prefer Emily on both counts. They're both good names with long histories—I just find Emily prettier, both spoken and in writing (that pretty y!) You can't really go wrong either way.
I do too. My husband prefers Emma tho .. He also wants the middle name to be Mary like his late grandmother, but Im not sure how Emily Mary or even Emma Mary sound like ... Is having 3 names too much?? lol
Well, here is what I think: Emily Mary is a bit ee-heavy, while Emma Mary makes me feel like I'm stuttering. Emily Sophia Mary Bornh0ft, however, flows very well. Each name is short so the two middle names don't feel cumbersome, and the -a ending of Sophia breaks up the Y endings. Emily Mary Sophia Bornh0ft is also good because it breaks up the two 3-syllable names, giving a 3-2-3-2, which is pleasing to the ear, if that's the order you prefer. Either way has something going for it :)
Emma Sophia Mary works, too, but I still like Emily better. This one only works in this order, though, because of the -ma Ma- issue.
I agree, Emily Sophia Mary B_ sounds very nice.
If you don't want to do 2 middles and decide to go with Mary, I like Emma Mary much better than Emily Mary.
If you go with just Sophia, my vote would be for Emily Sophia.
Between Emily Sophia Mary, Emma Mary and Emily Sophia, I like Emily Sophia the best.
Wow thank you so much for taking the time to really think this through!! Im more convinced now that Emliy Sophia is the way to go!! Thx!!
Hmm... if you were to use just Mary, I still prefer Emily Mary to Emma Mary. It is a bit y-heavy, but I find the 2-2-2 pattern of Emma Mary B— too choppy, whereas the 3-2-2 of Emily Mary B— has a nice cadence to it. It is a bit -y heavy, but again, the 3-syllable rhythm of Emily puts the two ys far enough apart that it doesn't bother me (as opposed to something like Lucy Mary, which would be too singsongy).
If you use both names, I prefer the Emily Mary Sophia order, again because of the meter. This is just my personal preference, but my favorite names are the ones with two unstressed syllables between stresses. EM-i-ly MA-ry so-PHI-a BORN-h0ft fits the bill perfectly. Emily Sophia Mary B— has a more uneven rhythm to it (though it's also fine—I'm nitpicking a bit here).
But it sounds as though you're leaning toward just Emily Sophia, anyway, which is lovely.
I just flat-out prefer the name Emily.
While Emma is fine, I find Emily more suitable both on girls and adults.
Emma is a bit over-sweet for me, and I find it less easy to imagine on a confident, grown woman.
Of course, I'm sure that will change when start meeting some.
I'll also add that around here, I do meet teenage Emilys, but only know of a few young ones.
Emma seems the more popular choice for little ones, though, again, I don't feel like I know many. I meet many more Sophies and Graces. Seriously, Sophie is the name of every 3rd girl here, but as you said, that isn't an issue for you.
gl!
Thank you! Yes I do know 3 Sophies under 2 years old!! but I dont live in Northamerica right now, so I dont want to concern myself wiht that .. however, my whole family is canadian, so eventually when my kids grow up and decide to move back home they might find their names more popular there than they did here growing up ... But really, do I want to take that into consideration now???
Emma Sophia is awesome. I think it is because I know so many wonderful Emmas that I feel that way, but there it is.
Thank you! Its so hard to choose they are both beautiful to me .. Maybe when shes born i will for sure know which one it is :))
