Update On Today Is Decision Day

My Goodness,

I can't believe I have been deliberating over a name for this long. I need to order birth announcements by today and finally close this on going debate. We have a long Norweigan last name and an older sister named Liv. Here is my list:

NEW THOUGHTS

Anna (ah-na) Sofia

* I know in the US the pronunciation will be an issue, I have thought of spelling it ANA, but next to a long and distinctive Norweigan last name it just seems odd to have the Spanish/Latin spelling. Does that make sense? Or should I just ignore that piece.

** Still really like this name it is short and sweet.

Ella Sofia

*I know this name is played out.. but I like the nickname options "Ellie" "Elle" ect. I would not name her these nicknames, but I find them to be fun and sweet.

** Yes, I do agree that this is not as original as Reese or Annika and very “dime a dozen” however, I still like it.

Reese Anna

* This is a Welsh name that I have always been drawn to. I like the fact it is short and sweet and distintive. Liv and Reese might go well together. I do lose the Scandinavian flair, but what do you think? I also have ANNA as a middle name in case we use that as a nickname as well.

** Yes, I do think that Liv & Reese would now take on a Hollywood theme.  To me, this devalues the names.  Thanks for pointing that out.

Annika Eve

* Initials would be AEI, not sure if that matters. I am open to another middle name. Hope is another family name. But Eve means life and Liv, my other daughters name means "life" - so I thought that would be a way of connecting them. Annika is as Scandinavian as it gets. You don't hear the name that often in the US, and I like that it is unique. However, it is longer and we do have a 4 syl last name. But does that matter? Annika and Liv... hmmm...

** I like Annika Eve too.  My name is Erica and it rhymes with Annika? Does that matter? Also our last name is Norweigan and 4syl.  Is this too long?

MILA

*New name to bring to the table.  . The name: Mila. It does have Scandinavian roots, but of course, originally of Slavic decent.  Liv and Mila would be cute together.  This brings me back to liking the name Ella for a 3rd child.  I do lose some of the Scandinavian flair that comes with the name Annika. But that was my last thought. What do you think? Or should I just stick with Annika Eve? Which everyone seemed to really like.  Annika & Liv?

I don't love the combo Liv and Reese.  I can't get behind Ella either.  I love Anna, Annika, and Mila.  Annika seems like a little much with a 4 syllable name but then again since it's a scandinavian name it will probably flow nicely.  I think since that's the one you love and keep coming back to, that's the one you should go with.  Once you make the decision you'll certainly be happy :)

I love Mila, and I think Liv and Mila sound really cute together.  No pronunciation issues, fits well with a Scandanavian last name.  Mila Sofia is really cute too.

I like Mila too!  However, there could be some pronunciation issues - MEE-la vs. MY-la, right?  I am pronouncing it MEE-la.  Or shoud I not worry about that?

I normally see Mila as MEE-la, and Myla as MY-la.

I vote Mila! I think it would sound nice with a long Norweigan surname, and it goes really well with Liv. That said, if you really love Annika Eve? I don't think the fact that it rhymes with Erica is something to be concerned about. It is long, but I don't think it's TOO long to be usable.

Mila is a pretty name, but for me Annika remains the more fresh and sophisticated choice, as well as the better match to Liv.

I think Mila shares Liv's simple prettiness and also its cosmopolitan quality, but because of the popularity  of names like Mia etc...it just feels a bit trendier, and thus, for me, less elegant.

There is also something about the look and sound of the two of them together that feels like they are halves or parts of one name. That probably sounds crazy, and I can't really explain it.....And perhaps that's a good thing, anyway....Hmmmm

Have you thought about just Elle (L?) or Elin as alternatives to Ella? Not that you need more choices...!

At any rate, I'd still vote for Annika, but if Mila is strking you as just the right thing, then go for it!

I still like Annika Eve best of all. I don't think it sounds too much like Erica. My father and I have names that sound a lot alike, and there's never been a problem. In fact, I think I'm the only one that's noticed it. Also, if you're going to find yourself calling her Anna a lot anyway, that'll take off most of the weirdness for you.

Mila is nice, but I still think you'll be running into the celeb problem you had with Reese, as Mila Kunis is the number one (or only) reference most people will have for the name.

I still love Annika Eve and I think Mila and Liv will bring up the Hollywood theme again.  Sorry!
