Zeke or Kiel? Your thoughts?
Zeke feels more natural because the ZEE sound is stressed in Ezekiel. It's also the expected nickname so it would be the easiest to get people to use.
It would be more difficult to get Kiel to stick. That said, if you like it much more, it's not so out-there that it couldn't be done. It would just take more work and more consistent use by you. And there's no guarantee that when he's older, his friends won't start calling him Zeke.
I also like Zee.
Kiel sounds like, well, a boat part to me.
I knew Kiel reminded me of something, and now I remember - it's the same of a city in northern Germany. I'm not sure how Germans would pronounce it, but I've always said "keel". And that's probably how I would say Kiel as a name, even though -kiel in Ezekiel is two syllables to me (kee-el).
The mnemonic I learned for German pronunciation is "When two vowels go a-walking, the second one does the talking." So yup, Kiel = KEEL.
I have a super soft spot for Zeke.
Zeke is the classic nickname for Ezekiel, and yet it still carries rakish appeal today. I say go for it.
I was going to join everyone else in saying Zeke but if you're still looking for dog names (rather than for a child) then I prefer Kiel because it feels more Doggy to me. I also think you could holler it across a park better. ;)
