People often assume Akiva is a girl, this doesn't really bother me though. On a whole people are very positive about the name. I personally feel that an unique name from the past is more interesting/individual then a modern name with an unorthodox spelling. Our Akiva has his name shortened to Kiv, Kivo, or Kivy. I envision his future as a constant stream of "No, not Steve, Kiv" but hey, there's worse things!
