Famous real-life people named Alvar: | Edit

Alvar Aalto, born Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (b. 1898). A celebrated Finnish architect responsible for such master-works as the Viipuri Library (1927-35), the Villa Mairea (1939) and the Säynätsalo Town Hall (1949-52). Additionally, Aalto's involvement with CIAM and the Sunila Pulp Mill town plan in Kotka are seen as significant contributions to Modern ideas of the city. The Paimio Chair (1932) for his Sanatorium project along with several glass vases (1936) designed with his wife, Aino, are iconic furnishings of the Modern period.
