We picked it because it was not popular, it was associated with a Saint and Ansel Adams the famous nature photographer, easy to spell, and worked well with our very long German surname.

Personal experiences with the name Ansel: | Edit

It feels good to say this name. So does writing it with the tall A at the beginning, ending in a tall L. Throughout our son's school years, he has been the only boy with this name and I think he likes that fact. We all want our kids to fell special in some way. Of course, he had to put up with the invevitable mispronunciation/spelling of Hansel or Angel and taunting "where is Grettle?" Minor annoyances.

In German, the name Ansel means- Gods protection. Originally derived from the name Anselm, which broken down into the germanic elements of ans "god" and helm "helmet, protection". This name was brought to England in the late 11th century by Saint Anselm, who was born in northern Italy. He was archbishop of Canterbury and a Doctor of the Church.
