My name is Cain and growing up people always thought it was very unique (And spelled Kane). After moving to the buckle of the bible belt (North Carolina) I received a much different reaction when meeting people (especially older people). I have never run into another person with the first name Cain.

Cain is one of two sons of Adam and Eve, the other being Abel. Cain and Abel presented their own gifts to God. God was more impressed with Abel's gift and ignored Cain's. Cain, filled with jealously, killed Abel, comitting the first sin (or death?). Cain also means spear.

Kain Highwind from the popular Final Fantasy 4 RPG series most likely got his name from Cain's of the bible. Cain, in the bible, was jealous of his brother Abel over God loving his gift more than his. Kain is jealous of his best friend who shares the same adoptive father as him, over a girl named Rosa loving his friend Cecil more than him. Kain also uses a spear as a weapon, as a Dragoon Knight.
The popular John Steinbeck novel, "East of Eden" is a retelling of the story of Cain & Abel, with it's center being around two brothers, Caleb and Aron.
