My son is named Carmine. I have never met a Carmine before, but the name seems to fit my son perfectly. He's very smart, friendly and funny. He can figure things out very quickly, and often out smart me and my husband.

My name is Carmine,(pronounced Car-meen). I am Irish and a female. My mother named me Carmine because she liked the color. I am always getting compliments but Italians think it weird that I am named a boys name and try to call me by the female equivalent Carmina (Car-mee-na rather than Car-myn). Had many nasty nicknames because it was so unique and rarely does anyone get it right calling me carmin, Carmen or Carmel and it took even my husband awhile to learn it's spelling and pronunciation lol. Still I have never met anyone with this name. Many Carmen's and Carmel and such...I am very proud of its uniqueness. I still believe I am the only girl in the world with my name :p

Carmine is the Italian masculine form of CARMEL. Which is influenced by the Latin word carminis "of song". Carmine when not a name (so carmine- lower case c) is a shade of red. Carmine is a pigment of a bright red color obtained from the carminic acid produced by some scale insects (the cochineal and the Polish cochineal)...and is used in the manufacture of artificial flowers, paints, rouge, yoghurt, cosmetics, food additives, and crimson ink.

Cleopatra would crush thousands of some beetle to get just an ounce of this crimson pigment that she would dye her hair with.
