Cornelius is a family name and I have a son and great grandfather with the name (and female relatives named Cornelia). It takes some people a bit to get used to the name, but as it grows on them they tend to love it and think it is unusual and very strong sounding. My Cornelius goes by his full name publicly, but Neil around the house. He has never once been made fun of for his name as was "predicted" by some when I decided on the name.

Comedian John Oliver says in his stand-up show that his Wikipedia entry incorrectly identified his middle name as Cornelius. He said he wishes his middle name was Cornelius because it is awesome, but that unfortunately it is not his middle name.
