I'm a male named "Erin" and as for the assertions that it is a girls' name, eh. I like my name; I've known other males with the name, they've liked it, too. This spelling is, apparently, more common for boys in Europe than it is in the U.S., and I've heard plenty of observations of how Americans are touchier about masculinity regarding names. I'm a pretty butch guy, maybe that's why the name is easy for me to carry. For reasons that are complicated to explain I had the opportunity to easily change it and I still opted to keep it. The meaning, pronunciation, impact, and general feel of it are all so different from "Aaron" that I'm hard to convince that it's simple matter of one being the "girls' spelling" and one being for the boys.
