Comments and insights on the name Ezra: | Edit

Ezra is my pet rock's name, and I hope none of you give your baby this name. Why not? Because I'm a selfish twat. That being said, I love his name, and think that having a unique name that doesn't rhyme with anything is great! No one really made fun of him in school, but they did make fun of me for having a pet rock. I saw someone wrote that their son Ezra's name is confused for a female name. We moved to a Hispanic neighborhood and had the same issue. His little rock friends wanted to call him Ezro or Israel because the "a" ending is feminine in Spanish. They just could not make sense of it. But that confusion is a small price to pay for a cool name! I've only met one other Ezra in my life and both of the Ezras I know are amazing, thoughtful, brilliant rocks.

Personal experiences with the name Ezra: | Edit

I named my son Ezra. I love the name, but wasn't prepared for every other person we met when he was a baby assuming it was a girl's name. I thought it was too old and solidly masculine to be confusing, but apparently the -a ending was too much for some people. Also, people here in the South seemed to have never heard of it--I would say "Ezra," and they would say "Israel?" "Asriel?" "Asra?" I had to go through my, "You know, like Ezra Jack Keats? Ezra Pound? Ezra in the Bible?" speech to more blank looks than I expected. Still, I wouldn't change it--it's a beautiful, strong old name with a lot of tradition and it appears to be making a comeback.
