Comments and insights on the name Graham: | Edit

We named our son Graham. He's now two and we're expecting another, so we're trying to figure out the next name. We chose Graham because it was both sophisticated and uncommon, but not obscure. I have a similar name, and have always loved it. Unfortunately, many of our favorite "Graham Like" names such as Cooper and Evan have become too popular for our tastes. I think we've only met one other Graham since he was born.

We named our six-month-old Graham for many of the same reasons as the commenter above. (Evan was also on the short list but it was becoming too popular for our liking.) While it could be spelled Graeme most people spell it Graham without prompting. It was important to me to choose a name that at least 80% of the general public would spell correctly, unlike names where two (or more) spellings are equally as popular.

Ditto for our 2 1/2 year old Graham. Uncommon but not unfamiliar, as are both my husband's and my own names. Grant was also considered but harder to say in combination with our last name. It is funny Evan was on our list too. Particularly for baby number two, because we would like an E name this time to honor both grandmothers' names. But we know it is a girl so we are at a loss...

We call ours "Grammy"

I have heard "Gray" as a nickname, although it hasn't seemed to stick with our little Graham.
