Meanings and history of the name Ivey: | Edit

On February 18, 1900 a man named Joseph Benjamin Ivey opened up a department store in downtown Charlotte, NC on North Tryon Street to take advantage of the, at that time booming cotton industry. He did very well and also enjoyed to travel and garden. In 1939 the store was renovated and on May 4, 1990 the store was bought by Dillards Department Store. Today this is called the Ivey's building and consists of luxury condos. I personally know of a girl who was named after that building from when it was first made into Ivey's condos.
