Judah has ties to Rastifari culture as well, where "The Lion of Judah" represents Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, crowned November 2, 1930 with the titles King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Elect of God and Power of the Trinity. Rastas hold that Selassie is a direct descendant of the Israelite Tribe of Judah through the lineage of King David and Solomon, and that he is also the Lion of Judah mentioned in the Book of Revelation.
The symbol of the "Lion of Judah" was used for the Israelite tribe of Judah in the Book of Genesis. In Christian tradition, the Lion of Judah represents Jesus. Many Christian organizations and ministries use the lion of Judah as their emblem or even their name. The phrase appears in the New Testament Book of Revelation 5:5; "And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof."
- Personal experiences with the name Judah: | Edit
My husband's name is Jacob and his family's tradition is pass part of the father's name down to the son. He shares his middle name with my father-in-law (it goes a couple of generations back too!) My husband and I are both opposed to having a Jr or Jacob II in the house and he hates his middle name. Since one of the meanings of the name Judah is "a son of Jacob" we felt it was fitting to carry on the family tradition while still allowing our son to be his own person with his own identity.

Commentary on the name Judah:
This name has been out of fashion for so long that you picture Judahs living in black and white. There's nothing fragile about this antique, though. Judah sounds like a warrior, and the nickname Jude may be even tougher. Different versions of the name point to the three major biblical Judahs: Judah typically means the son of Jacob; Jude is the apostle St. Judas Thaddeus; Judas is the traitor Judas Iscariot.
