Jupiter seems to be a polarizing name - people either strongly love it or hate it. It's uncommon and therefore a bit risky. On Yahoo Answers, someone asked (in January 2010) what people thought of the name Jupiter Mae for a baby girl and the results were mixed. Many of the negative responses were specific to the idea of naming a girl Jupiter since it it is for a male god and also a large planet (e.g. a BIG GIRL). A better planet/god to name a girl would be Venus, like the well-known tennis player. People who liked Jupiter thought it was cute, had a nice ring, and was unique and creative.

Personal experiences with the name Jupiter: | Edit

I named my daughter Jupiter, she was born in 2001. From the very first moments of her life she has been the embodiment of what a female Jupiter should be. People generally like the unusual name and love to ask questions about it's origin. She is intelligent and independent, well spoken and beautifully creative. I was lucky to have found the perfect name for such an amazing person.
On a side note, when Jupiter was 6 weeks old we met another woman who's son was named Jupiter. She said that it was for the character in the Sherlock Holmes Mysteries. Her son was about the same age as my daughter.

Jupiter Jones and the Three Investigators was a popular series about teenage boys who resolved crime. The series is internationally popular, especially in Germany, but the main character in Germany has the name Justus Jonas, not Jupiter Jones. Jupiter Jones is also the name of a band in Greenville, NC. Jupiter Sheep was once a band, also. Jupiter is mentioned in lyrics sung by Tori Amos, Train, The Cure and Jewel.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed his Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, on 10 August 1788. It was his last symphony. The work is nicknamed the Jupiter Symphony.
