Growing up, it was assumed I was female, so I was given a female locker partner, girl's gym and home economics in high school. But I really like having the name as it is independent and unique to my personality. My son named his first-born son after me, so the name Lauren will continue as a male's name.

Lauren is ultimately derived from the Latin name Laurentius, meaning "Man from Laurentum". Today this name is relatively unused for males, however, it was originally as masculine name. It was only popularised for females after Betty Joan Perske took on Lauren Bacall as her stage name. The name Lauren is also scandinavian for Laurence.
