Commentary on the name Mario:
Americans tend to think of Mario as an Italian name. It is indeed a classic in Italy, as well as for Italian Americans such as Governor Mario Cuomo and author Mario Puzo. (Not to mention Nintendo's pseudo-Italian Mario Brothers.) But Mario is actually used in several different languages and has become a steady favorite of Latino Americans. It's a charismatic, macho choice.
