Personal experiences with the name Ravi: | Edit

My name is Ravy and I disliked it as a child because I had OCD and wanted a name with more syllables. I've since grown out of that and now enjoy my name. In school it was often mispronounced as "Rev-ee" or "Rey-vee." One good thing was that I never met anyone else with my name in school so I didn't have the problem of answering a call meant for another Ravi. Also when people asked me if my name ended in an "i" or a "y" I would say "either, it doesn't matter," but that posed a problem with official documents because on my passport it was spelt with a "y" and at the doctors it was spelt with an "i" so finally I settled on ending it with a "y" because of my passport. My name's a bit of an icebreaker with Indians and they always ask me why I have an Indian name when I'm obviously NOT Indian. I explain to them that my mom liked watching Indian movies before I was born.
