Everyone in my family for the last two generations has a name beginning with "R". Being born in the late '80s, I was stuck with the name Rachel, with siblings Rebecca and Russell. I hated my name as a kid, but loved the tradition of having a family with the same initials.
When I was pregnant with my son, I couldn't find a boy name that started with "R" in any of the books, so I started looking in the girl section. I found, and fell in love with Reagan. I was nervous that I would always regret it and think of him as a girl. But every day I see how well his name fits him. It's a great name for little boys and when people ask me why I named him after a girl, I just tell them that its a unisex name and that he is in fact named after the president.
In fact, I like this name better for boys than girls.

My two year old son Reagan calls himself "Reaggie" pronounced Ray-gee
But honestly there aren't any great nicknames for this name.
