Comments and insights on the name Sian: | Edit

I'm called Sian and must admit it's a frustrating name as people mis-pronnounce it all the time.
It's from the Welsh version of 'Jane' (Wales, UK Birthplace to Anothony Hopkins and Catherin Zeta Jones).
Sian (and Jane) mean 'God is gracious'.
'Si' is Welsh is pronnounced 'Sh', so 'Sian' is pronnounced 'Sharn' (with the 'r' very subtly said, not an American Arrrr or aaaaah) Hopefully that makes sense!

I'm not sure why this is down as a male name, Having lived in Wales all my life I've never heard a male called this. So just thought I'd add this for advice to those parents to be reading this!

Personal experiences with the name Sian: | Edit

The only Sian I've met in person is a woman. I also think it's incorrect to be under boy's names, although I suppose people consider it a variant of "Sean" or "Shaun".

I have met a young boy named Sian in New Zealand
