The German name for the village of Stębark in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland; formerly Saxony, Prussia (Germany).

1st Battle of Tannenberg (German name for battle)/Battle of Grunwald(Polish name for battle) was fought 15 July 1410 against the Knights of the Teutonic Order by the Kingdom of Poland, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and assorted vassals and allies during a conflict which lasted from 1409-1411. The Teutonic Order lost and never recovered their former position of power.

(2nd) Battle of Tannenberg was another decisive battle fought 23 August to 2 September 1914, between the German Eighth Army and the Russian First and Second Armies. The Russian Second Army was nearly destroyed and the First Army severely weakened.
