Comments and insights on the name Aanya: | Edit

I always liked the Russian name Anya, so I looked it up numerologicaly and found adding another A would make it better. So I added another A in front of Anya to make it Aanya, and everyone liked that name even though it did not mean anything in Indian languages. (I am from India originally.) I named my daughter when she was born in 1998. Suddenly, it became popular but I'd like to think I started it, at least in India. I named my daughter Aanya as I wanted her to have a simple but not so common name that could be pronounced with ease any where in the world. Now that we're in the US I can appreciate how much easier it is for people to say her name than mine!

If someone has a child named AANYA from India older than mine (birth year 1998) I'd love to hear from them. By the way it's pronounced AAA-N-YAA (आन्या in Hindi), the same as the Russian variation Anya.

Meanings: The Sanskrit word that means "inexhaustible" is A-NN-YAA (अन्या) based on the root A-NNN (अन्न) - which means food. That is not the same as AANYA at all. Also in hindi we have another word AN-YA (अन्य)which just means "others" or "other", which again is not the same thing as AANYA since I created this name on my own.

In addition some sources say that Anya - the original Russian name was based on "Hannah" (Hebrew) which means "with grace". Also my Russian friends have told me that Anya really has no meaning but it sometimes used as a nick name or pet name for Anna in Russia, and some people may spell it as Aanya. Anya was also the nickname of Princess Anastasia of Russia.
