Origin of the name Eileen:
English variant of the French Aveline, a name derived from the Germanic Avila, which is thought to be a Latinate form of Aveza, a name ultimately of uncertain meaning. Alternatively, Eileen is an Anglicized form of the Irish Eibhlín, a cognate of Evelyn.

This is my name but I don't pronounce it Ay-leen but rather Aah-e-leen, like it's sister spelling Eileen.
I always get compliments on it but it usually takes friends a bit to learn to spell and pronounce.
I my middle name is Aileen; pronounced like Eileen. I don't think anyone has ever spelled or pronounced it correctly on the first try. My husband still has to ask me how to spell it and we've been married for three years.
This is my middle name and i pronounce it A-leen i spell i Aileen.
