I have always heard that Alison was originally a nickname for "Alice" not "Son of Alice"

Personal experiences with the name Alison: | Edit

-Growing up in the 70's and 80's I was usually the only Alison in my class. I pretty much liked my name. It was hard for me to say when I was first learning to talk because L's are pretty hard for babies. My mother called me Ali, and I pronounced it IE. I like the fact that my name has two nicknames that different people use. The full name can be used very nicely for professionalism, and Ali has a nice nicknamey funloving sound. Al, is a very quick nickname that a few members of my family use and everyone on my softball team used when I was growing up. It has a sporty sound.

-I am also an Alison, who grew up in the later 90's and early 2000's. Still in high school, I am the only one in my class named Alison. In elementary school there was one other girl, however that was it. I love my name. It is not too common, but not a strange name. The only thing I do not particularly like is my last name with my first name: Alison Robson. Like the previous person, my mom and friends call me Ali, but sometimes my mom shortens it even more to Al.
