My husband is of Basque descent and wanted a name that reflected his culture.

A Basque name - all Basque names were banned in Spain under Franco. Can also be spelled Amaya.

We named our 3 month old daughter Amaia Juliette.

We looked and looked and looked for the right name after our beautiful baby daughter was born. It took us three months... We are of South Asian origin and in Sanskrit the word Amaia sounds like A-Maya which can be translated as one without-delusion. But I love the Japanese meaning of it... The monsoons hit Mumbai the night Amaia was born and 'night-rain' was just the perfect name!
