I am also named Arielle and I'm 30 years old. Although I think it's a lovely name, I cringe every time I hear someone mispronounce it!!! I am thoroughly sick of being called "air-ee-uhl". It makes my teeth hurt. However, since the movie "The Little Mermaid" came out, I don't think there's any hope for Arielle to be pronounced the way it should be: like the letters R E L.

I agree I named my daughter Arielle and people look at me crazy and ask me to spell her name every time I pronounce it. Do they pronounce it the way I do....OF COURSE NOT every time they say her name it's "air-ee-el". If you every watch "The Little Mermaid" only Sebastian (the crab) pronounces her name correctly.

My name is Arielle and I am 49 years old. While growing up, I only knew one other Ariel and he was a man. I love this name, so much so that I named my daughter Arielle.

In the past, I could never find my name and it certainly got very popular after the release of the Little Mermaid.

This is my baby cousin's name. At first I thought of air-e-l,the little mermaid.She was,after all,born in California(an oceon state), but I actually like this,it's feminine, and sweet.It reminds me of a strong princess.It is found in the Bible (as Ariel).

Ariel is also a character in William Shakespeare's play the Tempest. I it also in the Bible in Isaiah Chapter 29 - it means Lion of God.

There are also two stars in the Galaxy called Ariel each with different spellings.

Dean Friedman's 1977 hit song "Ariel" reached # 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed in the chart for five months. "Ariel" has been described as a "quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, music loving, vegetarian Jewish girl."
