I pronounce Aurelia as *ah RAYL yah*
I think it is a gorgeous classy name, but a name that you will always have to specify WHICH pronunciation you use. Not a big issue in my eyes, but some folks like things simple.

I know of a girl named Aurelia pn oh-rel-ya (roughly).

My friend Aurelia pronounces her name Aw-REEL-ee-uh. (Nickname Lia, pronounced Lee-uh.) Her mother and grandmother have the same name.

My Mother's name is Aurelia she pronounces is A-Rey-Lia she never has gone by the name every since I can remeber everyone has called her "LALA"

You definatley dont hear the name alot!!!

The first time I heard this name was as a genus of jellyfish - aurelia aurita is the well-known Moon Jelly, so I think I'll always associate this name with jellyfish. Other people probably wouldn't though.

My mother's middle name is Aurelia, and it came from her grandmother who was named Mamie Aurelia. I've always loved it and I hope to use it one day, my husband and I say that if we ever have a daughter, she will be Aurelia Helen or Mary Aurelia. Helen and Mary are the first and middle names of his mother, as my mother's names were taken from each grandmother and so were mine (Caroline Yvonne), we want to keep that tradition and this way honor both grandmothers if we ever have a little girl. It's a beautiful, fresh name that isn't heard often and with the naming trends of today, would be right at home in a classroom of classic sounding names such as Olivia and Sophia.

Personal experiences with the name Aurelia: | Edit

We named our 2nd daughter Aurelia Elizabeth. We pronounce it (R-rail-ya)Her older sister is Audrey Michelle. Both girls were given the first names of their paternal great-grandmothers. Aurelia has my middle name (also my grandmother's middle name) and Audrey has the feminine of my husband's first name, Michael (also his father's name). We decided to be very traditional with naming our girls.
