Comments and insights on the name Beret: | Edit: Our fifth daughter is named Beret Anna. Beret is a traditional Norwegian name. It's the cognate of the Irish Bridget and means glorious or bright. If you do a google search on this name you will find many geneology resources from Norway and Norwegian immigrants who had this very popular name. My husband and I attended a college in MN that is of Norwegian heritage and fell in love with the name while there. The main character in a book called Giants of the Earth is named Beret as well. I wondered if people would call her beret (as in, the french hat). It hasn't been an issue at all!
