Comments and insights on the name Brianna: | Edit

My name is Brianna and I love it! I was also called Banana in elementary school which was fun and when I was in middle school I acquired Breezy as a nickname. I like that my name is not common, but its hard to find pre-made personalized items (coffee cups, etc.), and it's commonly mispronounced. I used to get annoyed when I was younger telling people that "there's no 'o' in my name" when they would say Bri-on-na. Now I go by Brianna and Bri, which comes in handy when I'm placing an order and need to give my name. They some times look at me funny and I say Bri... like the cheese (Brie). Also, it's funny hearing mothers call to their younger daughters in department stores. I immediately react because it's not a common name, and I would assume that Sarah's and Mary's get used to hearing their names called out out of turn.

According to the baby name book "Cool Names" by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz, Brianna is 'uncool' compared to the names Bryn, which is 'cool', and Bronte, which is 'cooler'.

Personal experiences with the name Brianna: | Edit

When I was growing up through the 80s and 90s, it was a very uncommon name, which I was uncomfortable with until I became a teenager. Then being a little unusual was a GOOD thing.
Although it's becoming more common now, I don't hear people of my age range (25-35) with the same name, and I always get the comment that my name is beautiful.
Another great thing is I was NEVER teased growing up, the only thing it really rhymed with was "banana" :)

-------------------------

In the mid 80's when I was looking for name for my 2nd child, I decided to honor my friend Sabina and my sister-in-law, Anna. I was going to blend the two names and came up with SaBrianna. I added the "R" because it sounded better. Then we decided to cut it short and just use Brianna because SaBrianna was a mouthful. I thought I made up a name, and it was already a very popular "celtic" name.
My daughter loves her name and she is now 23.
