My son is named Briar. It's a name that has taken him far. It has gotten him alot of attention. Its a romantic, strong name. It's fun to say.

My daughter's name is Briar Rose, but we all call her Briar or Bry. It also gets a lot of attention and it has mostly been positive.

Personal experiences with the name Briar: | Edit

First of all, I'm a female named Briar. Whenever somebody meets me, they compliment me on my name and ask if it's a foreign name. Sometimes people mistaken it for Brian, which I HATE. Also, I usually get written off as a shy person because of being named Briar. Besides that I like it, it suites me.

Briar is an English word that means, a thorned shrub. But, usually, Briar is thought of in reference to "The Briar Rose," a Brothers Grimm fairy tale that we know today by the name "Sleeping Beauty." Briar Rose is the name given to the sleeping princess because she is the Rose encased in the castle surrounded by Briar.

As a nod to the Grimm Brothers fairy tale, in the Disney movie version of 'Sleeping Beauty' the princess Aurora is taken into hiding by her fairy godmothers and raised under the name Briar Rose, as an attempt to protect her from Maleficent's curse.
