CANDACE was given to me as a Family Name(great great grandmother & many various relatives use it as their middle name). I have always been dumbfounded to find my name is ALWAYS MISSPELLED i.e. Candice(#1 way it is misspelled), Kandis, Cansdance, etc. & as a child it was FREQUENTLY MISPRONOUNCED by other kids i.e. "Can-Dance" or worse "Can't-Dance", Kansas, Candy, Candycane (believe it or not hurt my feelings as a kid, don't know why now the pet names are used endearingly by my closest friends). The only issue I see now as an adult if the similarity to "CANDIDIASIS" kinda errks me. Candidiasis is a medical term for a "Yeast Infection" - but i guess that why you see that "Candace" is derived from words meaning "WHITE" - I know = gross, but honestly I probably wouldn't have even noticed if I wasn't in the medical profession!

....All in all I love my name - I don't really meet many other Candace's - so this very "normal, common name" is pretty unique to me! The negatives that I mentioned above may FALSELY appear as if I was severely inconvenienced by my name growing up - I just wanted to share some insight to the minor issues with this name so you would be fully informed while debating/thinking of naming your baby.

Meanings and history of the name Candace: | Edit

Controlling what is now Ethiopia, Sudan, and parts of Egypt, an impressive series of Nubian warrior queens, queen regents, and queen mothers became known historically as "Black Queen Candace of Nubia" (from kentakes/"Candake"—Greek: Candace). Conceptualized as a tradition of African-women warriors, the following African queens were known to the Greco-Roman world as the "Candaces": Amanishakhete, Amanitore, Amanirenas, Nawidemak, and Malegereabar.

An early reference to the kentakes dates from 332 B.C. when Alexander the Great was foiled in his advance towards the rich kingdom of Nubia by the presiding kentakes’ counter-battle plan. Impressed by the precise military formation of the Black Queen’s warriors, he was thwarted from advancing to Nubia and instead turned his armies toward a successful campaign in Egypt.
