My name is Carol. I have never met anyone younger than 50 with my name, and I'm in my 30s. It seems everyone has an "Aunt Carol". I like that it's "just Carol". Not Caroline, Carolyn, etc. Of course, that doesn't stop people from assuming it is. And yeah, people misspell it, but they'll misspell anything :)
- Personal experiences with the name Carol: | Edit
Actually my parents gave me the name Carol spelled Karil.
As a teenage Carol, I am not fond of the name. I was named after two of my grandparents' friends. I know everyone wants a unique name and the fact that I don't know any Carols my age should be good but I can't help but think that there are other names that are equally unique and not so...old. To illustrate this point, a story. Two years ago, I was at a camp. We were going around the room introducing ourselves. As soon as I said my name, the counselor exclaimed, "I never knew a Carol younger than 50!" Needless to say, this did nothing to recommend me to the name, especially as this is a pretty standard reaction. One day, I might appreciate my name but the teenage years are not the best for the name. I also dislike the number of people who manage to misspell it with an "e" and the total lack of nicknames!
