Comments and insights on the name Christina: | Edit

I've appreciated the versatility of Christina over the years. I was Chrissy as a young child, Kris in college, and Christina in my professional life.

Since I was born in the 70's, there are a lot of people my age with similar names, which meant that I was sometimes "Little Kris" or Chrissy G. But that probably won't be a problem for young children these days.

Whenever I go bowling the computer only has room for "Christ", which is a bit weird.

I am 29 and my name is Cristina, without an 'h'. I have always really liked my name. It is a nice name that is not too popular. I don't really remember having other girls in my classes with my name, unlike the names Jennifer, Ashley, Sara... My name has many nicknames: Cris, Crissy, Cristine but without even trying, people never called me by nicknames. I am Hispanic which is why my name has no 'h'. I like the look of it without an 'h', but people ALWAYS spell it with an 'h' unless they too are Hispanic. I love my name and wouldn't change it for the world.

I know 4 Christina's except one spells it with a K and not a C. 2 are in the family and 2 were friends in high school. Chrissy, Kristy, Christy...I tried to call my friend Kristina Chris but she hated it! haha. And it's weird how all 3 of em share the same middle name as I do..which is Marie.

Personal experiences with the name Christina: | Edit

I'm a Christina. I'm 22. So, yes, I was born in the 80's. Until I was about 10, I wasn't particularly fond of my name. No one I knew personally had it. Then my babysitter named her daughter Christina. And a girl named Christina who was two years younger than me started at our school. I didn't feel so alone and that made it better. It gradually grew on me. I like it now. I like that it's uncommon, but not out of left field. My family mostly calls me Chris, which I like and prefer over other nicknames. My only problem with it: I'm forever called Christine. My grandparents thought this was a suitable nickname for Christina, so they always called Christine. Now, all of my extended family on their side thinks my name is actually Christine. At my graduation and my wedding I received all kinds of embroidered and personalized gifts saying "Christine". ANNOYING! And everyone I meet calls me Christine. Even though I emphasize the "A". They say, "Hi, I'm Amanda. And you are...?" "ChristinA." "Hi, Christine." It's frustrating. I have a friend just a couple months older than me who is also a Christina. I met her mom and thought for sure she would recognize my name as Christina, but, no, she calls me Christine as well. I own my own business and when I have clients come in they always say, "Christine, right?" "No, Christina." I also never liked the nickname, Tina. It's become second-nature to correct everyone on my name, so it doesn't seem to be such an annoyance anymore, but, I really wish I didn't have to. What's the point in having such a great, strong name if no one knows that's what your name is?
