I love my name as it used to be unusual when I was growing up to meet another Courtney. I was supposed to be Megan when I was born, but when my dad and sister were about to tell them what to put on my birth certificate, my sister, who was six at the time, told my dad that she didn't like Megan. He asked her what my name should be, and she said Courtney. We do not know where she heard the name as she didn't know any Courtneys, but I'm very glad she did this as I have always disliked the name Megan. My poor mother got to hold me for the first time and called me Megan, and my father had to tell her that, no, my name was Courtney.
My name is Courtney and I used to hate it, but now I don't mind it so much. I know lots of other Courtneys, in fact there are 4 others in one of my classes. But the good thing about this name is that even though it's somewhat common, its not over-used or stereotyped, and everyone knows how to pronounce it. This spelling is the most common so people usually get it right the first try. I prefer this spelling over Cortney, Cortnie, Kortnie, or anything else because I think this spelling makes it more mature and sophisticated. And since this name is 2 syllables, it goes really well with one syllable middle names, such as Courtney Rose or Courtney Mae. As far as nicknames go, the worst I've gotten is Horny Corny, haha. And Courts, which I really hate. But my friends sometimes call me Corny or Corn Dog, but it's usually just Courtney.
