My mother is a teacher and had a student named Dalee, which is how they came to know of it. It's often mispronounced as 'Dolly', 'Daily', or 'Deli'.

I grew up with a lot of people pronouncing my name incorrectly. The most embarrassing part of growing up with that name is highly due to the assumption that it is a female's name, when I am a male.

As far as I can tell it started out as a last name. It is sometimes spelled with a capital D and L 'DaLee'.

My mother's maiden name is DaLee. She (and other genealogy nuts in her family) believe it was originally de Lille, after the town in France.

** In the Hmong nationality, depending on exact pronunciation of "Da", it can be taken as "Half" or "Demon". "Lee" is known as "Moon"; so the interpretation can be "Half Moon" or "Demon Moon".
