My middle name is Danielle, but it is spelled Daniell; it doesn't have an "e" at the end like most people's do.

My name is Danielle, as well. My parents named me after a dearly-departed good friend of my Father's. My Mother wanted to spell my name Danial, just to make it distinguished, but the nurse filling out the birth-certificate application didn't like the spelling and changed it to how she wanted. My nickname is Dani as well. For some reason, my name is constantly mispronounced. It is supposed to be pronounced "Dani-Yell", but I get called Daniel, Danyell, Danelli, Daniella, Dani-elle, Danny-ellie and oddly enough, Danani or Danini quite frequently. I don't mind it if I get called "Dan-yell" because that's usually the closest that anyone gets to the proper pronunciation. My name is misspelled even more than it is mispronounced (the most recent misspelling being "Danall"). Despite me hating my name as a teenager, I now adore it, but I do get quite a bit frustrated at the constant spelling and pronunciation mistakes made with my name. My middle name is Ann and I like that name as well. My sisters names are Denise Marie (DeeDee), Aspen Lee and Josephine Dorothy (Josie); and my Brother's name is Jesse Taylor. When writing out names, just for a quicker version, my Mom nick-named us D1 (me), D2 (DeeDee), J1 (Jesse)and J2 (Josie). I know my name was pretty popular in the 80's and I grew up knowing a few other Danielle's in my school, neighborhood, and city but it wasn't so very popular that I had another Danielle in any of my classes growing up until just a couple of semesters ago in College. I've shared classes with plenty of Daniel's however. I've only had one friend in my whole life who was also named Danielle and that was back when I was in 3rd grade. I think that the trend had cooled down a bit but even my son has both a Danielle and a Daniel in his class. I think that the meaning of "God is my Judge" make it a beautiful name and I think it sounds lovely when pronounced correctly , also.

Hi all of you Danielle's. My name is Danielle, too! My name wasn't as popular as Stephani, Jessica, and Jennifer, but it was fairly when I grew up. All in all, I like my name, even though people commonly pronounce it incorrectly as the boy version, Daniel.

My name is Danielle and I'm 15 (as of Sept. 2009). There are 3 other Danielles in my grade, but it's not nearly as popular as some other names. Overall I like my name, but I prefer Daniela. It's funny because my mom wanted to name me Daniela Maria, but my dad said it was too Italian-sounding (which I dont get becasue we are Italian) and they compromised with Danielle Marie. Yet my Dad calls me "Little Daniela" all the time. Does that make any sense? No. I probably would have ended up with the same nickname of Dani anyway though, so it really doesn't matter. I've never had my name mispronounced unless you count when substitute teachers read too fast and call me "Daniel" (but they generally correct themselves). I have had it mispelled. For some reason it took like ten years for my Uncle to start spelling it right on my birthday card. He used to forget the last "e".

We named our daughter Danielle in 1985 because we were living in francophone Africa, and wanted a unique name that worked in both English & French. Alas, next time we got to the States, we learned that Danielle was not unique and had become a VERY popular name! (This was 1985 -- #18 overall that year and even more popular in our home states). Also, people in our part of Africa had never heard of Danielle as a girl's name -- the male name is pronounced the same as the female's in French and everyone kept asking why we gave our daughter a boy's name! (This is spite of the fact that the French president's wife in '85 was named Danièle).
We still love the name tho.

I've always liked my name, and have never used a nickname, but it's often misspelled and mispronounced. People generally see the name spelled out and assume it's pronounced "Daniel." Or, when I say my name, they spell it as "Daniel." Surprisingly, many people still don't seem to realize they are two separate names!

Overall, I'd highly recommend the name! I see it as timeless (of course, I may be prejudiced! ;)) I have see younger children that share my name, but have never met anyone older than me (29) with it.

Hi, my name is Danielle aswell, I havent met anyone named Danielle much older than myself, im 22 now. As far as im aware, this name really took off in the 80's, it was very popular then. Growing up, i was generally the only Danielle in class, however i did know another Danielle in my school, a few years older than me.

I also occassional get people thinking its spelled "Daniel" which is annoying, and people thinking it is pronounced as "Daniel". I am from Australia, and prefer it pronounced as "Danny-elle", I really actually hate it when people say it as "Dan-yell", I think it sounds aweful and I cringe when people say it that way.

My friends have nicknamed me Dell, Della, Elle, Dee, and Danni.

Hi, my name is Danielle also and I am 36. I have 3 close friends also named Danielle near or around my age but no one in my school ever had the same name as me. I was born in the early 70's so I am assuming that is when it started its upward spiral.

My name is also Danielle and I am 34. I went through my entire school career having only 1 other Danielle in the system. It was kinda nice. None of my teachers ever had to add the first letter of my last name because there were 2 or 3 kids with the same name in one class. When I was in middle school there were like a hundred Stephanies. It was so bad, most of us kids just stopped referring to them by their first names. They just got called by their last names. I have never had that problem and I kinda like it.

Born in '89, so all my life 'Danielle' has been a very common name. I notice many tend to misspell and mispronounce 'Danielle' as 'Daniel'. It's also been mispronounced as 'Danell' quite often throughout my elementary, middle, and high school years. I suppose I like my name, though :)

I absolutely love my name and would have called my daughter Danielle if it wasn't my name! I was born in '84 and there weren't many Danielle's around at school. Even now, its sort of rare, but I have got to know a few more Danielle's as I've grown older. I hate being called Dan-yell, as some of my teachers used to call me, and i used to correct them by saying my name is pronounced Dany-elle. I think it is a beautiful name woth a beautiful meaning (God is my judge) and recommend it to all those mum's to be considering the name :)

I'm a Danielle, born in '87 when the name hit its peak popularity point, yet was always the only Danielle in my school. I used to hate my name because I wasn't one of the many Jennifer's, Rachel's, or Amanda's in my class, but as I've grown I've come to love my name. I also occasionally get people spelling or mispronouncing the name as 'Daniel', which is pretty annoying. I spent the last year in Germany and sometimes when I would introduce myself I would get the side-eye because the male name is pronounced the same in German, and they would wonder why I had a man's name. Overall, I love my name!

My name is Daniellie, a slightly varied form of Danielle in spelling only, even though it looks like it should also be pronounced differently. I don't know what my mother was thinking, but now I don't even write that name on my papers anymore because every one thinks its pronounced Dan-yell-ee not Dan-yell. I don't mind having the name Daniellie, its just that everyone wants to pronounce it wrong. My mother didn't want it to be pronounced with the EE sound at the end, so I don't know why she did it. I was born in 1993 and a lot of girls my age have Danielle as a middle name, just like I do, so everyone's first comments about my name are that my mother wanted a different pronunciation even though she didn't. It can get very frustrating.
