Emi is a common Japanese girl's name, pronounced "Emmy". It was especially popular in Japan from about the 1960's through the 1980's. (Before that, it was most commonly found as Emiko, with the traditional girl's name suffix -ko). Emi is quite popular with Japanese-Americans and Japanese living abroad, since it blends in quite well with Western names.

The name Emi is also used nowadays by French-speaking families in Quebec, Canada, as an alternative spelling of Emmy/Emy which is currently fashionable there.
