I'm named "Fru" after my mother. I'm the fourth Fru in my family. Three generations ago it was "Fruzanna," which I know by checking my genealogy online. I think that my ancestress, Fruzanna, came from the Ozarks?

Some time ago I read, in a novel originally written in Romanian: "Frutszina." I think it's awfully close to Fruzanna? And then I discovered "Euphrosyne."

And there's a St. Euphrosyne, to further complicate things. I wonder if the Romans, on their colonizing trips north from Italy, might have carried the original name of the Grace with them, into Eastern Europe...from whence it then got carried into Russia? Or did it stop with the Byzantine Empire, and never get to Russia, and then she got made into icons? You can see St. E. icons online, if you Google it...

And then my own name, "Fru," is a variant of "-Phro?" Curioser and curioser.

One of the Three Graces in Greek mythology was named Euphrosyne. She was the goddess of joy and mirth. John Milton mentions her in his poem "L'Allegro" as a symbol of the active, joyful life.
Asteroid 31 Euphrosyne is named after this goddess.
In "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo, Cosette's real name is Euphrosyne.
