"Ire as a word on it's own means anger; wrath; furry. And lyn means waterfall. So you would be naming your child a waterfall of anger and furry. Not a very positive name. I really think that you should understand the meaning of a name before you give it to someone. They are to carry it around for the rest of their lives."

Okay, I didn't particularly care for the last person's 'made up' name meaning. There are other meanings entirely to this name, without it literally meaning 'an angry waterfall'. Pffft! Here's a description I found on baby name index: "Irelynn - Description: celtic/ gaelic lynn: waterfall, from the lake, a cascade, and pretty. Ireland: celtic goddess. Therefore, the name means 'pretty goddess.'" It's also considered a combination of Irene and Lynn. 'Ire' is in the name Irene, however the name does not mean anger, wrath, or fury (although my grandmother's name is Irene, and it's always a wise idea to dodge her wrath and fury whenever possible!). It actually means peace, from Eirene or Irene, the Greek Goddess of peace. I think this is a lovely combination/name that you won't come across everyday!

I have a three month old daughter named Irelyn Macy. I have never heard of anyone else with her name (not personally at least.)

I have a daughter named Irelyn. I call her Irie all the time. It's different and I think very beautiful.
