Personal experiences with the name Isolde: | Edit

I am an Isolde (pronounced ih-SSOLD). I have never met another in all of my 35 years. I am a name that nobody can pronounce correctly, but once they get it...they never forget it. Only a rare few have ever heard of it before and when I meet them they are delighted to know they are a part of this group. I don't dislike my name. In fact, I think it adds to my complexity and uniqueness. I became "Izzy" as an adult, which is a lot of fun!

My aunt is Isolde.

Meanings and history of the name Isolde: | Edit

Tristan und Isolde (Tristan and Isolde, or Tristan and Isolda) is an opera, or music drama, in three acts by Richard Wagner, based largely on the romance by Gottfried von Straßburg. It was composed between 1857 and 1859 and premiered in Munich on 10 June 1865 with Hans von Bülow conducting. Wagner referred to "Tristan und Isolde" not as an opera, but called it "Eine Handlung" (literally drama or plot). The legend of Tristan and Isolde (Iseult) is an influential romance and tragedy, retold in numerous sources with as many variations. The tragic story is of the adulterous love between the Cornish knight Tristan (Tristram) and the Irish princess Iseult (Isolde, Yseult, etc.).
