Growing up (I am now in my late 30s) there was only one other Karen in my classes and the name is less popular now. I like my name and enjoy that it is not too different or too common. There are several spellings but this seems to be the most popular spelling

There is an ethnic group in Thailand and Burma named the "Karen". The "Karen" language is also commonly spoken among small villages in Thailand.

My sister Karen was born in 1984. She does not like her name at all. Besides her, the only other Karens are all over 40. It's unfortunately one of those names that dates you a bit, and it can be a challenge when you don't fit into the generation people think it belongs to.

I'm a teacher, and one of my sweetest Kindergarteners is named "Karen." It's not a common name anymore, but I hope it's on the upswing.
