This name was super popular (second after only Jennifer) among the girls I went to high school with. This was the most common spelling, but there were also Lindseys, Lyndsays, Lyndseys, Linseys, and Lynseys. It's a nice enough name, but like Crystal and Tiffany, it also screams, "I was born in the early '80s!"

Scottish family name thought to be originating from the French speaking Normans. Often erroneously affiliated with the place name of Lincolnshire. Thought to mean "isle of the linden trees", "isle of snakes" or "linden tree marsh" The snake reference can be traced back to tuetonic german - lindis means snake in old-german. Originally thought to be spelled lindisae. In addition, the lime tree (American) is called the the linden tree (british) and in old English, the word "eg" pronounced "ey" means island, hence "linden tree island."
