Origin of the name Marion:
A French diminutive form of Marie, which is derived from the Hebrew Miryām, a name of debated meaning. Many believe it to mean "sea of bitterness" or "sea of sorrow." However, some sources cite the alternative definitions of "rebellion," "wished-for child," and "mistress or lady of the sea."

- Personal experiences with the name Marion: | Edit
I'm a 25 year old named Marion, and I've only ever met one other Marion who wasn't at least 30 years older than me. I used to hate that and wish I didn't have an "old lady's name" but now I enjoy that it is unusual but still easily spelled, easily recognised. I think old fashioned names are becoming popular for that very reason. old fashioned names can be nostalgic or be brought to life by giving them to a new baby.
